Sample-Based Estimation of Tree Cover Change in Haiti Using Aerial Photography: Substantial Increase in Tree Cover between 2002 and 2010

چکیده

Recent studies have used high resolution imagery to estimate tree cover and changes in natural forest Haiti. However, there is still no rigorous quantification of change accounting for planted or managed trees, which are very important Haiti’s farming systems. We estimated net change, gross loss, gain Haiti between 2002 2010 from a stratified random sample 400 pixels with systematic sub-sample 25 points. Using 30 cm 1 m images, we classified land at each point, any point touching woody plant higher than 5 as crown. found increase crown equivalent 5.0 ± 2.3% (95% confidence interval) area. Gross gains losses amounted 9.0 2.1% 4.0 1.3% the territory, respectively. These results challenge, first time empirical evidence, predominant narrative that portrays experiencing ongoing loss. The quantified here represents 35% 2010. Further research needed determine drivers this substantial national scale.

Estimation of Tree Cover in an Agricultural Parkland of Senegal Using Rule-Based Regression Tree Modeling

Field trees are an integral part of the farmed parkland landscape in West Africa and provide multiple benefits to the local environment and livelihoods. While field trees have received increasing interest in the context of strengthening resilience to climate variability and change, the actual extent of farmed parkland and spatial patterns of tree cover are largely unknown. We used the rule-base...

Estimation of Tree Biomass at Individual tree, Sample plot and Hybrid Level using Drone Images

Two-dimensional image conversion algorithms to 3D data create the hope that the structural properties of trees can be extracted through these images. In this study, the accuracy of biomass estimation in tree, plot, and hybrid levels using UAVs images was investigated. In 34.8 ha of Sisangan Forest Park, using a quadcopter, 854 images from an altitude of 100 meters above ground were acquired. SF...

Urban tree cover change in Detroit and Atlanta , USA , 1951 – 2010

We assessed tree cover using random points and polygons distributed within the administrative boundaries of Detroit, MI and Atlanta, GA. Two approaches were tested, a point-based approach using 1000 randomly located sample points, and polygon-based approach using 250 circular areas, 200 m in radius (12.56 ha). In the case of Atlanta, both approaches arrived at similar estimates of tree cover (5...

Assessing Tree Cover in Agricultural Landscapes Using High-Resolution Aerial Imagery

Trees used in agroforestry practices, such as windbreaks, provide a variety of ecosystem benefits and are recognized globally as an important land use. However, efforts to inventory and monitor agroforestry land use have been sporadic, short-lived, or focused on small spatial extents. There are a variety of satellite-derived datasets that provide information about tree cover over broad spatial ...

Approximating the minmax rooted-tree cover in a tree

Given an edge-weighted rooted tree T and a positive integer p ( n), where n is the number of vertices in T , we cover all vertices in T by a set of p subtrees each of which contains the root r of T . The minmax rooted-tree cover problem asks to find such a set of p subtrees so as to minimize the maximum weight of the subtrees in the set. In this paper, we propose an O(n) time (2 + ε)-approximat...
