چکیده

In this paper, we demonstrate a novel salinity sensor based on Tamm-plasmon-polariton (TPP), comprising different shapes of Bragg reflector (ordinary, texturing, and sawtooth) metallic layer. The finite element method is used to study the considered structure sensing performance by using COMSOL multiphysics simulation procedure. Here, effect surface morphology sensitivity; firstly, in case one-dimensional photonic crystal-centered defect, it harms secondly, texturing sawtooth Tamm resonance increases sensitivity, as for surface, sensitivity quality factor (Q) = 236 figure merit (FOM) 170. For surfaces, Q 272.4, FOM 199. consequences structural parameters efficiency are studied, new procedures proposed enhance TPP-based sensors. A simple functional alternative conventional sensors may be solution.

Surface EM waves on 1D Photonic Crystals

Photonic crystals are artificial low-loss dielectric structures with periodic modulation of refractive index, which have attracted considerable attention in the last two decades. Due to Bragg reflection, electromagnetic (optical) waves cannot propagate through such structures in certain directions, at certain frequencies. Hence, photonic crystals can control the propagation of electromagnetic w...

Salinity sensor based on polyimide-coated photonic crystal fiber.

We proposed and experimentally demonstrated a highly sensitive salinity sensor using a polyimide-coated Hi-Bi photonic crystal fiber Sagnac interferometer based on the coating swelling induced radial pressure. This is the first time to exploit fiber coating induced pressure effect for salinity sensing. The achieved salinity sensitivity is 0.742 nm/(mol/L), which is 45 times more sensitive than ...

Study of optical Tamm states based on the phase properties of one-dimensional photonic crystals.

We demonstrate the physical mechanism of optical Tamm states using the phase properties of the photonic crystals. Based on such mechanism, we propose an efficient way that can precisely produce optical Tamm states at specific frequencies. Moreover, we show that dielectric photonic crystals and single-negative materials can be effectively connected through their reflection phase. Two kinds of on...

Semiclassical Coupled Wave Theory for 1d Photonic Crystals with Dissipation

We show that a modified form of the semiclassical coupled wave theory gives a reliable description of wave propagation in a 1D photonic crystal with complex refractive index. The key idea of the theory remains the same: to include both variable amplitudes and variable (geometric-optics) phases in the counterpropagating coupled waves within the photonic crystal. Here, however, the phases become ...

Tamm states and nonlinear surface modes in photonic crystals

We predict the existence of surface gap modes, known as Tamm states for electronic systems, in truncated photonic crystals formed by two types of dielectric rods. We investigate the energy threshold, dispersion, and modal symmetries of the surface modes, and also demonstrate the existence and tunability of nonlinear Tamm states in binary photonic crystals with nonlinear response.
