Fabrication of Saddle-Shaped Surfaces by Flame Forming Process

The flame forming process is widely used to manufacture ship hull plates. The saddle-shaped surfaces have different curvatures in perpendicular angles of planes and the manufacturers face an anti-clastic curvature. In this article, the manufacturing of saddle-shaped surfaces utilizing the flame forming process is investigated. The spiral irradiating scheme is used for forming. In order to study...

Isotopy problems for saddle surfaces

Four mutually dependent facts are proven. • A smooth saddle sphere in S has at least four inflection arches. • Each hyperbolic hérisson H generates an arrangement of disjoint oriented great semicircles on the unit sphere S. On the one hand, the semicircles correspond to the horns of the hérisson. On the other hand, they correspond to the inflection arches of the graph of the support function hH...

Optimal Triangulation of Saddle Surfaces

We consider the piecewise linear approximation of saddle functions of the form f(x, y) = ax − by under the L∞ error norm. We show that interpolating approximations are not optimal. One can get slightly smaller errors by allowing the vertices of the approximation to move away from the graph of the function.

Coordinate finite type invariant surfaces in Sol spaces

In the present paper, we study surfaces invariant under the 1-parameter subgroup in Sol space $rm Sol_3$. Also, we characterize the surfaces in $rm Sol_3$ whose coordinate functions of an immersion of the surface are eigenfunctions of the Laplacian $Delta$ of the surface.

Multiple Saddle Connections on Flat Surfaces and Principal Boundary of the Moduli Spaces of Quadratic Differentials

The moduli space of quadratic differentials is not compact: when some loop on a Riemann surface M becomes short in the flat metric defined by a quadratic differential q, the corresponding point (M, q) of the moduli space tends to a “cusp”. We describe typical degenerations, thus describing “generic cusps of moduli space”. The part of the boundary of the moduli space which does not arise from “g...
