Ruthenium Olefin Metathesis Catalysts Bearing a Macrocyclic N‐Heterocyclic Carbene Ligand: Improved Stability and Activity

نویسندگان

چکیده

Formation of sterically hindered C−C double bonds via catalytic olefin metathesis is considered a very challenging task for Ru catalysts. This limitation led to the development specialised catalysts bearing reduced N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands that are active in such transformations, yet significantly less stable as compared general purpose To decrease small-size NHC susceptibility decomposition, new ligand was designed, which two aryl arms were tied together by C-8 alkyl chain. The installation this macrocyclic on ruthenium centre formation an catalyst (trans-Ru6). Interestingly, complex undergoes transformation into isomer Cl cis-arrangement (cis-Ru6). These isomeric complexes exhibit similarly high thermodynamic stability, different application profiles catalysis.

Ruthenium-based heterocyclic carbene-coordinated olefin metathesis catalysts.

The fascinating story of olefin (or alkene) metathesis (eq 1) began almost five decades ago, when Anderson and Merckling reported the first carbon-carbon double-bond rearrangement reaction in the titanium-catalyzed polymerization of norbornene.1 Nine years later, Banks and Bailey reported “a new disproportionation reaction . . . in which olefins are converted to homologues of shorter and longer...

Ruthenium Olefin Metathesis Catalysts Bearing Carbohydrate-Based N-Heterocyclic Carbenes.

Ru-based olefin metathesis catalysts containing carbohydrate-derived NHCs from glucose and galactose were synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy. 2D-NMR spectroscopy revealed the presence of Ru-C (benzylidene) rotamers at RT and the rate of rotation was measured using magnetization transfer and VT-NMR spectroscopy. The catalysts were found to be effective at ring-opening metathesis p...

Improved ruthenium catalysts for Z-selective olefin metathesis.

Several new C-H-activated ruthenium catalysts for Z-selective olefin metathesis have been synthesized. Both the carboxylate ligand and the aryl group of the N-heterocyclic carbene have been altered and the resulting catalysts evaluated using a range of metathesis reactions. Substitution of bidentate with monodentate X-type ligands led to a severe attenuation of metathesis activity and selectivi...

A Ruthenium Catalyst for Olefin Metathesis Featuring an Anti-Bredt N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligand.

A ruthenium complex bearing an "anti-Bredt" N-heterocyclic carbene was synthesized, characterized and evaluated as a catalyst for olefin metathesis. Good conversions were observed at room temperature for the formation of di- and tri-substituted olefins by ring-closing metathesis. It also allowed for the ring-opening metathesis polymerization of cyclooctadiene, as well as for the cross-metathesi...
