Rumen bacteria and feed efficiency of beef cattle fed diets with different protein content

چکیده
Context Beef cattle feed efficiency is challenged in northern Australian production systems due to the limited dietary protein, leading changes rumen bacterial populations and fermentation outcomes. Aims Two types of diets with different protein contents were used evaluate composition diversity, aiming correlate parameters. Methods In total, 90 Brahman steers (341 ± 45 kg BW) selected for this trial, but fluid was collected from 85 steers, at 0 4 h after feeding, during a feed-efficiency trial. The fed low-protein diet, including 70% rumen-degradable 8.8% crude (CP) 60 days, followed by high-protein diet same period (13.5% CP). Liveweight dry-matter intake measurements, as well urine, faeces samples, determine efficiency, ruminal bacteria composition. Steers clustered into groups using principal component analysis Ward’s hierarchical method, differences parameters among clusters compared. Key results Rumen differed between (P < 0.01) diversity more related richness 0.01). there four distinct on basis bacteria, which most efficient better residual = 0.06) lower ammonia concentration before had highest relative abundance Prevotella While no observed or steer clusters. Conclusion shifting might contribute upregulate nitrogen recycling, favouring efficiency. Implications Identifying involved recycling upregulation be useful select diets.

Defining Feed Efficiency in Beef Cattle
Most breeding programs have focused on improving economically relevant output traits such as growth, carcass quality and fertility to enhance the economic viability of beef production systems. Generally absent from current breeding programs in the U.S. are avenues for exploiting genetic variation in feed efficiency, even though reductions in feed inputs would substantially improve profitability...
متن کاملAssessment of microbiome changes after rumen transfaunation: implications on improving feed efficiency in beef cattle
BACKGROUND Understanding the host impact on its symbiotic microbiota is important in redirecting the rumen microbiota and thus improving animal performance. The current study aimed to understand how rumen microbiota were altered and re-established after being emptied and receiving content from donor, thus to understand the impact of such process on rumen microbial fermentation and to explore th...
متن کاملSmall intestine histomorphometry of beef cattle with divergent feed efficiency
BACKGROUND The provision of feed is a major cost in beef production. Therefore, the improvement of feed efficiency is warranted. The direct assessment of feed efficiency has limitations and alternatives are needed. Small intestine micro-architecture is associated with function and may be related to feed efficiency. The objective was to verify the potential histomorphological differences in the ...

Data were collected on 130 intact male lambs fed diets based on roughages supplemented with fish meal, soybean meal, or corn gluten-blood meal and slaughtered at 43 kg live weight. A nonsupplemented group served as a control. The lambs represented Romanov (R), Finnsheep (F), a new breed developed in Canada (DLS), Coopworth (C), and Suffolk (S), three first crosses of DLS with R, F, and Booroola...
متن کاملWhole genome single nucleotide polymorphism associations with feed intake and feed efficiency in beef cattle.
Feed intake and efficiency are economically important traits because feed is the greatest variable cost in beef production. Feed efficiency can be measured as residual feed intake (RFI), which is the difference between actual DMI of an animal and the expected DMI based on its BW and growth rate. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) is the inverse of gross feed efficiency and is the ratio of DMI to ADG. ...
