Rule Talk: Instructing Proper Play With Impersonal Deontic Statements

چکیده
The present paper explores how rules are enforced and talked about in everyday life. Drawing on a corpus of board game recordings across European languages, we identify sequential praxeological context for rule talk. After is breached, participant enforces proper play then formulates with an impersonal deontic statement (e.g. “It’s not allowed to do this”). Impersonal statements express what may or be done without tying the obligation particular individual. Our analysis shows that such used as part multi-unit multi-modal turns where talk accomplished through both grammatical embodied means. serve multiple interactional goals: they account having changed another’s behavior moment at same time impart knowledge future. We refer this complex action “instruction.” results study advance our understanding rule-following life, resources language body combined enforce formulate rules.

Extending a temporal rule language with deontic operators
Although rule-based modeling has been successful in many areas, many rule languages have severe weaknesses, especially when trying to model large systems of rules, some of which describe both human and computer behavior. In these situations, the current rule languages easily become too restricted, both in expressiveness and the ability to deal with inconsistencies. Deontic operators are propose...

Let us say that two finite sets of natural numbers are primality-isomorphic if there is a differencepreserving primality-preserving and nonprimality-preserving bijection between them. Let Φ be the statement “every infinite set B ⊆ N has an infinite subset A such that for any x < y < z in A, the interval { 2 , . . . , 3x+y 2 } is primality-isomorphic to the interval { 2 , . . . , 3x+z 2 }”. Traditional methods of user authentication in distributed systems suuer from an important weakness which is due to the low degree of randomness in secrets that human beings can use for identiication. متن کاملDeontic norms, deontic reasoning, and deontic conditionals
Deontic reasoning is thinking about whether actions are forbidden or allowed, obligatory or not obligatory. It is proposed that social norms, imposing constraints on individual actions, constitute the fundamental concept for the system of these four deontic modalities, and that people reason from such norms flexibly according to deontic core principles. Two experiments are presented, one on deo...
