RTK-LoRa: High-Precision, Long-Range, and Energy-Efficient Localization for Mobile IoT Devices

High-precision global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is a crucial geolocalization feature enabling wide range of applications, from mobile Internet-of-Things devices to autonomous drones and self-driving vehicles. Real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS technology that attracting increased interest due the centimeter precision achievable when wireless communication present on devices. On other hand, sending continuously data increases energy consumption cost solution, especially carried over 4G network. Due those drawbacks, RTK not much exploited in localization battery-operated This work combines with low-power long-range achieve submeter an energy-efficient RTK-based system. The proposed exploits state-of-the-art RTK-GNSS module combined long (LoRa) minimal radio infrastructure requirements. An algorithm implemented microcontroller have quick startup high accuracy. We evaluate three different modules compare their performance terms power Experimental results, in-field measurements, show average tens centimeters end node connected single base station used as geostationary reference anchor placed at kilometers distance. peak measured below 10 cm.
