Routine job dynamics in the Swiss labor market

Abstract I investigate the role of labor market flows in decline routine employment Switzerland between 1992 and 2018 using rich individual-level panel data from Swiss Labour Force Survey. Existing research on effects digital transformation has identified jobs with a high content tasks as particularly prone to automation. My analysis shows that was almost entirely driven by decreasing inflow rates non-participation non-routine occupations opposed increasing outflow jobs. Performing Oaxaca-Blinder-type nonparametric decompositions, find these rate decreases can primarily be accounted for changed propensities transition into occupations, whereas demographic changes play minor role. The propensity decreased all distinguished groups, while enter cognitive middle-aged individuals those low or medium education. findings suggest is evolving differently than US wake transformation.
