Root Trait Diversity in Field Grown Durum Wheat and Comparison with Seedlings

چکیده
Roots are important for crop adaptation, particularly in dryland environments. We evaluated root development of 37 durum wheat genotypes (modern cultivars and landraces) the field at adult plant stage, through a shovelomics approach. Large genotypic variability was found traits. Differences between landraces modern were main driver this variation, with showing higher vigor roots shoots. Nonetheless, variation within groups also observed, related to different models growth, largely independent total length. These two represented growth oriented either occupy more soil volume, or less volume increased density. The results then compared data previously collected seedlings using filter paper-based method, assess whether early anticipated features. Field plants showed narrower angle than seedlings. In particular, presented cultivars, but only seedling stage. Potentially useful correlations stages length number.

Phenotypic Diversity of Tunisian Durum Wheat Landraces
Tunisia is considered as a diversification centre of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) and barely (Hordeum vulgare). It is characterised by large genetic diversity; however, several genotypes are in the process of disappearance. The safeguard and rehabilitatation of this genetic inheritance requires genetic characterisation, evaluation and in-situ and ex-situ conservation. In this context, a l...
متن کاملThe effect of root cooling on hormone content, leaf conductance and root hydraulic conductivity of durum wheat seedlings (Triticum durum L.).
Root cooling of 7-day-old wheat seedlings decreased root hydraulic conductivity causing a gradual loss of relative water content during 45 min (RWC). Subsequently (in 60 min), RWC became partially restored due to a decrease in transpiration linked to lower stomatal conductivity. The decrease in stomatal conductivity cannot be attributed to ABA-induced stomatal closure, since no increase in ABA ...

Root-shoot interaction in the greening of wheat seedlings grown under red light.
Wheat seedlings grown with roots exposed to constant red light (300-500 micromoles m-2 s-1) did not accumulate chlorophyll in the leaves. In contrast, seedlings grown with their roots shielded from light accumulated chlorophylls. Chlorophyll biosynthesis could be induced in red-light-grown chlorophyll-deficient yellow plants by either reducing the red-light intensity at the root surface to 100 ...
متن کاملA screening method to identify genetic variation in root growth response to a salinity gradient.
Salinity as well as drought are increasing problems in agriculture. Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. ssp. durum Desf.) is relatively salt sensitive compared with bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), and yields poorly on saline soil. Field studies indicate that roots of durum wheat do not proliferate as extensively as bread wheat in saline soil. In order to look for genetic diversity in root gro...
