Rollator related pedestrian single accidents and collision events in Sweden

چکیده
Rollators (four-wheel walkers in USA; zimmer frames UK) are commonly used as mobility aids for the elderly and people with a variety of disabilities. Pedestrian rollator users sub-group Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs), although this group is rarely recognised traffic safety contexts. The aim study to extract analyse related pedestrian accident injury data Sweden. results will provide valuable insight into risks obstacles exposed environment may long term contribute improving group. current based on from 2,020 accidents involving 2,305 persons extracted Swedish Traffic Accident Data Acquisition (STRADA) database. For consistency reasons, subset (N = 745) was analysed order investigate development over period 10 years. Thereafter, each whole set registered either single or collision. show that number Sweden increased by approximately 80% during 2007–2016. Females dominate statistics accidents, collisions, well fatal outcome, which be due exposure and/or differences physical characteristics. Single much more common than collisions (n=1,668 n=352, respectively) consequences at least serious. present have revealed frequency minor injuries (ISS 1–3) 4.3 times, moderate 4–8) 6.0 times serious 9–15) 8.9 higher collisions. Fatal are, however, collision events (33 comparison 8). vast majority (99%) falls. Many (29%) were caused ground level (typically curb) surface conditions (19%). Collisions involved cars, trucks buses 91% cases, occurring predominantly car parks (31%) (zebra) crossings (30%). In 54% cases vehicles reversed rollator. Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) 3+ dominated head (36%) torso (33%) events, hip fractures (71%) accidents. shows further research user both required. introduce appropriate measures, future work should follow up developments improve quality aid general. Improved stability design, proper training programmes, effective maintenance services, supporting infrastructure would users.

Misperception of time-to-collision by drivers in pedestrian accidents.
The approach of an object can be monitored from its optic flow. More specifically, it has been postulated that time-to-collision at constant velocity is perceived by relating visual angle theta to its rate of change theta, time-to-collision being theta/theta. This hypothesis is reappraised, and an alternative based on the parameters theta and angular acceleration theta is proposed. The expressi...
متن کاملCurrent transients in single nanoparticle collision events.
Electrochemical hydrazine oxidation and proton reduction occur at a significantly higher rate at Pt than at Au or C electrodes. Thus, the collision and adhesion of a Pt particle on a less active Au or C electrode leads to a large current amplification by electrocatalysis at single nanoparticles (NPs). At low particle concentrations, the collision of Pt NPs was characterized by current transient...
متن کاملPrevention of pedestrian accidents.
Child pedestrian accidents are the most common road traffic accident resulting in injury. Much of the existing work on road traffic accidents is based on analysing clusters of accidents despite evidence that child pedestrian accidents tend to be more dispersed than this. This paper analyses pedestrian accidents in 573 children aged 0-11 years by a locally derived deprivation score for the years...
متن کاملA study of pedestrian-vehicle accidents in Iran in 2013
Background: In recent decades, ‎due to the increase in users of roads and inadequate attention to the creation and development of appropriate passageways for traffic, there has been a growing trend in traffic accidents and casualties caused by them. The traffic accidents among pedestrians to take necessary measures in a timely fashion should be well studied. This study was conducted with th...
متن کامل[Recreational diving accidents in Sweden].
Even if recreational diving is gradually becoming safer, the 2-6 fatalities each year is the most serious problem in recreational diving. Human factors are behind 75% of the fatalities and medical problems seldom cause fatalities. On average 40 recreational divers are treated with recompression each year. Signs and symptoms are in general mild and only few sequelas are seen. The number of traum...
