Role of PET gamma detection in radioguided surgery: a systematic review

چکیده

Abstract Purpose This systematic review aimed to collect published studies concerning intraoperative gamma detection of positron-emitting tracers for radioguided surgery (RGS) applications. Methods A literature search until October 2022 was performed in Pubmed, Web Of Science, Central (Cochrane Library) and Scopus databases, including the following keywords: “Positron Emission Tomography” OR “PET” AND “Gamma” “ γ ” “Probe” “Radioguided Surgery” “RGS”. The included had concern RGS procedures at least 3 patients, regardless administered radiopharmaceutical field application. Results Among 17 selected studies, all between 2000 2022, only 2 investigations were conducted with gallium-68 ( 68 Ga)-labeled somatostatin analogues, fluorine-18-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose ([ 18 F]FDG) being most commonly used agent Almost oncologic one paper also inflammatory infectious findings. analysis showed that largest part through use conventional probes, not specifically designed annihilation photons n = 9), followed by PET probes 5) three involving electronic collimation. Conclusions Regardless devices, positron emitters seems lead significant improvements surgeons’ ability obtain a complete resection tumors, even if nature resulting from positron–electron collision still remains extremely challenging requires further technical advances.

A comprehensive overview of radioguided surgery using gamma detection probe technology

The concept of radioguided surgery, which was first developed some 60 years ago, involves the use of a radiation detection probe system for the intraoperative detection of radionuclides. The use of gamma detection probe technology in radioguided surgery has tremendously expanded and has evolved into what is now considered an established discipline within the practice of surgery, revolutionizing...

[Radioguided surgery in neuroendocrine tumors. A review of the literature].

Radioguided surgery can be a useful technique in the localization of neuroendocrine tumors. It detects more and smaller lesions compared to pre-surgical imaging and intraoperative digital palpation by the surgeon. It detects residual lesions and also indicates the shortest access route to the lesion. Nevertheless, its use has not become widespread because of technical difficulties. There is a l...

Radioguided surgery using gamma detection probe technology for resection of cerebral glioma.

OBJECTIVE Using microsurgical procedures without intraoperative imaging, Gross Total Resection (GTR) has so far only been achieved in less than 30% of all cases. Radio-guided surgery was introduced in the clinical setting in 1985 in an attempt to facilitate intraoperative tumor detection. Because of few studies in literature about this subject, we decided to use gamma probe with the hypothesis ...

Role of Basal Ganglia in Swallowing Process: A Systematic Review

Objectives: The basal ganglia (BG) controls different patterns of behavior by receiving inputs from sensory-motor and pre-motor cortex and projecting it to pre-frontal, pre-motor and supplementary motor areas. As the exact role of BG in swallowing process has not been fully determined, we aimed at reviewing the published data on neurological control in the swallowing technique to have a better ...
