Rockmass Fracture Analysis at Cărpiniş Travertine Quarry Using Ground Penetrating Radar and Geophysical Methods

چکیده

Abstract Travertines are susceptible to fracturing/ cracking, making it difficult extract large uncracked blocks of significant commercial value. In our study, we used the GPR – Ground Penetrating Radar and other geophysical methods (resistivity seismic methods) evaluate degree fracturing. Following interpretation longitudinal transversal profiles, corroborated with resistivities minima, led us identify fractures highly fracturing areas in Carpinis quarry. addition, using these combined methodologies corroborating geophysical, geological, tectonic geomorphological information creates premises for an effective investigation quarry, which assists optimising mining process.

Uxo Detection at Jefferson Proving Ground Using Ground-penetrating Radar

We have used ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to detect UXO and non-ordnance on the 40-acre site (lot 54) of Jefferson Proving Ground, Indiana. The UXO are buried within about 1 m deep in a clayey silt for which the soil water content ranged from moist near the surface to near saturation at about 1 m. We used a 16-bit radar to profile along previously established lines, and transects over artific...

Ground-Penetrating Radar Mapping Using Multiple Processing and Interpretation Methods

Ground-penetrating radar processing and interpretation methods have been developed over time that usually follow a certain standard pathway, which leads from obtaining the raw reflection data to the production of amplitude slice-maps for three-dimensional visualization. In this standard series of analysis steps a great deal of important information contained in the raw data can potentially be l...

Deterministic Deconvolution of Ground‐Penetrating‐Radar Data at a Limestone Quarry

A 30 m by 30 m two-dimensional grid was designed on a flat bench behind a quarry face of predominantly limestone with thin shale layers located at a Bonner Springs, Kansas site to test the utility of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) for stratigraphic studies. GPR data were collected along seven lines parallel to the quarry face and seven lines perpendicular to the quarry face, each separated by 5...

Underground Utility Analysis and Soil Characterization Using Ground Penetrating Radar

This paper describes modern, non-invasive data acquisition methods of underground utility detection. Basic parameters, methods and their influence on the acquisition speed and data quality are defined. This data can be used for development of complex Geographic Information Systems. The aim of this paper is to show data extraction from the hyperbolic reflection on the radargram. These data are u...

Long-term Geophysical Monitoring of Simulated Clandestine Graves using Electrical and Ground Penetrating Radar Methods: 4-6 Years After Burial.

This ongoing monitoring study provides forensic search teams with systematic geophysical data over simulated clandestine graves for comparison to active cases. Simulated "wrapped," "naked," and "control" burials were created. Multiple geophysical surveys were collected over 6 years, here showing data from 4 to 6 years after burial. Electrical resistivity (twin electrode and ERI), multifrequency...
