Rock Wedge Stability Analysis by a Level III Reliability Method

چکیده
In fractured rock masses, discontinuities control the mechanical response of slopes. They even define geometry a potential failure, known kinematically controlled failure. Hence, proper characterization and description are needed to assess their stability. Accordingly, in this work, reliability assessment wedges' stability was performed by Monte Carlo simulation. The orientation modeled as random variable that follows rotationally symmetric Fisher distribution. We developed an algorithm modes failure based on planes, which articulated within methodology compute factor safety wedges explicitly. systematically defines set-up joint planes. Then it verifies relative location slope set-up, is related mode wedge. proposed validated comparison against commercial software; both yielded same results. Besides, probability function removable were computed for different concentration parameters. Reliability showed importance properly characterizing variability since highly influences addition, definition kinematic analysis required before computing because many combinations planes do not lead unstable wedges, reduces Otherwise, overestimated. Finally, we recommend further work wedge involving rotational nonsymmetric

Roof Tunnel Stability by Wedge Analysis
A jointed rock mass presents a more complex design problem than the other rock masses. The complexity arises from the number (greater than two) of joint sets which define the degree of discontinuity of medium. The condition that arises in these types of rock masses is the generation of discrete rock blocks, of various geometries. They defined by the natural fracture surfaces and the excavation...
متن کاملReliability Analysis of Rock Wedge Stability: Knowledge-Based Clustered Partitioning Approach
In this paper a knowledge-based clustered partitioning technique is developed for determining reliability index and failure probability of rock wedge. Here, the a reliability index is analyzed and the optimization is carried out using a knowledge-based clustered partitioning (KCP) technique. The reliability index computed with this KCP technique is compared with those using other approaches suc...
متن کاملRock Slope Stability Analysis Using Discrete Element Method
Rock slope stability depends very much on the strength features of the rock and the geometrical and strength characteristics of the discontinuities (e.g., roughness, wall strength and persistence). Since a rock mass is not a continuum, its behavior is dominated by such discontinuities as faults, joints and bedding planes. Also, Rock slope instability is a major hazard for human activities and o...
متن کاملSystem reliability approach to rock slope stability
A systematic quantitative methodology for the reliability analysis of stability of rock slopes is presented. A sliding mass resting on an inclined plane and composed of two blocks separated by a vertical tension crack is considered, and a disjoint cut-set system formulation is proposed, with each cut-set corresponding to a different failure mode of the slope. Methods for the evaluation of the s...
