Rock Physics Model and Seismic Dispersion and Attenuation in Gas Hydrate-Bearing Sediments

چکیده

A rock physics model was established to calculate the P-wave velocity dispersion and attenuation caused by squirt flow of fluids in gas hydrate-bearing sediments. The critical hydrate saturation parameter introduced describe different ways concentration, including mode pore filling co-existence particle cementation. Rock physical modeling results indicate that is insensitive increase for filling, while it increases rapidly with increasing Meanwhile, seismic show both PP mode-converted PS reflections are lower than value, they tend change obviously higher value. These can be interpreted only when begins part solid matrix at high saturation, represents observable impact on elastic properties Synthetic seismograms calculated a 2D heterogeneous where varies vertically layer thickness sediment laterally. Modeling larger generally corresponds stronger reflection amplitudes from bottom simulating reflector.

Ultrasonic Velocities in Laboratory-formed Gas Hydrate-bearing Sediments

Gas Hydrates are widely distributed in the near surface at high latitudes and many ocean bottoms. Our laboratory measurements help calibrate the seismic and well log data that are used to ascertain the in situ distribution of hydrates. Ultrasonic velocities are measured in unconsolidated sand specimen under thermobaric conditions comparable to those found in shallow oceanic or permafrost region...

Faulting of Gas-Hydrate-Bearing Marine Sediments — Contribution to Permeability

Extensive faulting is observed in sediments containing high concentrations of methane hydrate off the southeastern coast of the United States. Faults that break the sea floor show evidence of both extension and shortening; mud diapirs are also present. The zone of recent faulting apparently extends from the ocean floor down to the base of gas-hydrate stability. We infer that the faulting result...

Geomechanical Constitutive Modelling of Gas-hydrate- Bearing Sediments

In this work and in order to consider theoretically the effect of gas hydrates on the mechanical properties of their host sediments, hydrate fraction was introduced as a state variable in the framework of a Critical State model. For the proposed model, the process of de-structuration and softening of natural clay was considered as a proxy for the gas-hydrate-bearing-sediments behaviour. The dev...

A rock physics model for hydrates bearing sediments of near surface

Gas hydrates presented as form of segregated bodies have been observed on shallow subsurface sediments. However, most gas hydrate physics models describe that hydrates occur in pore space in deep subsurface sediment. A new model considers gas hydrate as segregated bodies to derive elastic properties of hydrates bearing sediments and gas hydrate saturation. The predicted elastic properties based...
