Robust Inference on Income Inequality: t-Statistic Based Approaches

چکیده
Empirical analyses on income and wealth inequality those in other fields economics finance often face the difficulty that data is heterogeneous, heavy-tailed or correlated some unknown fashion. The paper focuses applications of recently developed \textit{t}-statistic based robust inference approaches analysis measures their comparisons under above problems. Following approaches, particular, a large sample test equality two parameters interest (e.g., regions countries considered) conducted as follows: samples dealt with partitioned into fixed numbers $q_1, q_2\ge 2$ $q_1=q_2=2, 4, 8$) groups, (inequality with) are estimated for each group, standard two-sample $t-$test resulting q_2$ group estimators. Robust $t-$statistic result valid general conditions estimators measures) considered asymptotically independent, unbiased Gaussian possibly different variances, weakly converge, at an arbitrary rate, to independent scale mixtures normal random variables. These typically satisfied empirical even pronounced heavy-tailedness heterogeneity possible dependence observations. The methods complement compare favorably available literature. use illustrated by across Russia.

t-Statistic Based Correlation and Heterogeneity Robust Inference
We develop a general approach to robust inference about a scalar parameter when the data is potentially heterogeneous and correlated in a largely unknown way. The key ingredient is the following result of Bakirov and Székely (2005) concerning the small sample properties of the standard t−test: For a significance level of 5% or lower, the t−test remains conservative for underlying observations t...
متن کاملModelling health, income and income inequality: the impact of income inequality on health and health inequality.
A framework is developed to analyse the impact of the distribution of income on individual health and health inequality, with individual health modelled as a function of income and the distribution of income. It is demonstrated that the impact of income inequality can generate non-concave health production functions resulting in a non-concave health production possibility frontier. In this cont...
متن کاملComparison of two QTL mapping approaches based on Bayesian inference using high-dense SNPs markers
To compare different QTL mapping methods, a population with genotypic and phenotypic data was simulated. In Bayesian approach, all information of markers can be used along with combination of distributions of SNP markers. It is assumed that most of the markers (95%) have minor effects and a few numbers of markers (5%) exert major effects. The simulated population included a basic population of ...
متن کاملInference on Income Distributions
This paper attempts to provide a synthetic view of varied techniques available for performing inference on income distributions. Two main approaches can be distinguished: one in which the object of interest is some index of income inequality or poverty, the other based on notions of stochastic dominance. From the statistical point of view, many techniques are common to both approaches, although...
متن کاملON TRUNCATED MEASURES OF INCOME INEQUALITY FROM A FUZZY PERSPECTIVE
In most statistical analysis, inequality or extent of variation in income isrepresented in terms of certain summary measures. But some authors arguedthat the concept of inequality is vague and thus cannot be measured as anexact concept. Therefore, fuzzy set theory provides naturally a useful toolfor such circumstances. In this paper we have introduced a real-valued fuzzymethod of illustrating t...
