Roadside Vegetation in and Around the Megacity of Kolkata Along an Urbanisation Gradient

Combustion of fossil fuels by the on-road vehicles is major contributor air pollution which affects surrounding vegetation and their habitat in addition to human health hazards. Study on concurrence between vehicular greenhouse gas emissions associated plant community important assess present day problem scenario environmental equilibrium. An ecological analysis has been carried out from five locations along roadside suburban interiors highly vehicle congested urban areas Kolkata megacity. Quantitative study naturally grown road side covering seedlings tree shrubby species, herbaceous annuals perennials suitable length each area was conducted following standard methodology. Increasing shows reciprocal correlation with species richness diversity.
