RNAi FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF INSECT PESTS: A REVIEW

نویسندگان

چکیده

RNA interference (RNAi) is a biological mechanism that involves the inhibition of gene expression by introduction double-stranded (dsRNA) molecules are complementary to specific target genes. This technique has emerged as promising strategy for management insect pests in crops. The application RNAi pest use dsRNA essential genes species. When these ingested pests, they trigger silencing inhibits genes, leading reduced populations and damage RNAi-based several advantages over traditional chemical-based methods, including its specificity, effectiveness, environmental safety. However, there still some challenges associated with RNAi, such potential offtarget effects need effective delivery methods. Nonetheless, technology holds great promise sustainable agriculture.

Insect pests of tea and their management.

Globally, 1031 species of arthropods are associated with the intensively managed tea Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze monoculture. All parts of the plant, leaf, stem, root, flower, and seed, are fed upon by at least one pest species, resulting in an 11%-55% loss in yield if left unchecked. There has been heavy use of organosynthetic pesticides since the 1950s to defend the plant against these p...

Progress Towards RNAi-Mediated Insect Pest Management

Gene suppression via RNA interference (RNAi) provides an alternative strategy for insect pest management. The ingestion by insects of double-stranded RNAs targeting essential insect genes can trigger RNAi and lead to growth inhibition, developmental aberrations, reduced fecundity, and mortality. This RNAi response is particularly acute in certain coleopteran species, most notably the western co...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Farmer Management Practices of Citrus Insect Pests in Kenya

A formal citrus insect pest survey was conducted in two citrus growing districts of Kenya, Bungoma and Machakos, to determine important insect pests of citrus and evaluate the pest control practices used by small-scale farmers. Observations were made on the insect pests and their damage, methods of pest control practiced, pesticide products used, sources of farming knowledge and how decisions t...
