River Mobile Armor Layer Induced by Flood

چکیده

The armored layer is crucial for protecting the riverbed. bed of river a movable material that protects below surface layer. This study aimed to develop formulas estimate thickness mobile armor with noncohesive materials and establish correlation between flow velocity shear stress under conditions erosion sedimentation. research methods included field measurements, laboratory tests, numerical simulations. primary data grain size gradation profiles, topography, flood discharge. results demonstrated consistency in behavior riverbed various discharge conditions. fundamental variables affecting coefficient (sv) dimensionless (t0/tc). novelty this derivation thickness, which influenced by stress. present findings significantly contribute design more efficient environmentally friendly protection rather than rigid structures. These indicated sedimentation were primarily applied above Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2023-09-06-05 Full Text: PDF

Modeling Flood Inundation Induced by River Flow and Storm Surges over a River Basin

Low-lying coastal regions and their populations are at risk during storm surge events and high freshwater discharges from upriver. An integrated storm surge and flood inundation modeling system was used to simulate storm surge and inundation in the Tsengwen River basin and the adjacent coastal area in southern Taiwan. A three-dimensional hydrodynamic model with an unstructured grid was used, wh...

Flood-induced embankment failures on the River Tay: implications of climatically induced hydrological change in Scotland

Agricultural flood embankment failure frequency within the Tay drainage basin in Scotland is explored by examination of breach data (228 breaches in total) collected during an eight-year period in which a large number of high discharge flood events (with return periods of up to 120 years) occurred. The data illustrates that overtopping is the main mechanism of failure, that certain reaches and ...

India: Flood Management - Damodar River Basin

Information is provided about the approach and experience in flood management in the Damodar river basin of India. This is achieved through a scheme for the integrated operation of a number of reservoirs on that river and on its tributaries for the purpose of irrigation, hydropower generation and flood protection. Of particular interest is the recent change in policy towards a multi-disciplinar...

Flood Risk and River Basin Management

The aim of this study is to identify the sources of uncertainty that induce the largest uncertainties in the model outcomes and quantify this uncertainty using expert elicitation. Analysis of expert opinions showed that the Qh-relation and the roughness predictor of the main channel cause the largest uncertainties for design water level computations. For effect studies, the floodplain topograph...

Adaptive Flood Warning and River Management

Recent research carried out in CRES has produced a data-based modelling approach to the adaptive forecasting of river flow or levels using rainfall or upstream flow inputs as leading indicators. This approach, which is based on the estimation of a general transfer function model from historical data, has significant advantages over existing flood forecasting methods: for example, on-line adjust...
