Risk of Diabetes Mellitus and Level of Physical Activity Among Young Adults Affiliated to A Medical College in Chengalpattu District

Background: India is home to 77 million diabetics. Roughly 30% of overweight people have diabetes and 85% diabetics are overweight. Young adults especially prone due increased junk food consumption sedentary lifestyle. Many young would be leading a life as diabetic if they not educated about screened for the risk factors. This will also allow us timely strategize effective prevention therapies. Methods: was Cross sectional study conducted among 210 aged between 18-35 years affiliated medical college in Chengalpattu. Two validated tools were used: Indian score (IDRS) International physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ). Frequency, Chi-square test, One Way ANOVA correlation used analysis. Results: 36.7% obese. 27.1% 55.2% had high moderate Diabetes mellitus respectively. BMI showed statistically significant association with IDRS risk. 53.3% participants physically inactive. Age gender significantly associated Total MET min/week. Negative seen minutes/week. Conclusion: There an urgent need screen thereby reduce incidence. youth at diabetes, which calls action plan through intensive efforts promote lifestyle modifications.
