چکیده

St. Louis encephalitis virus has had a fascinating history in Florida. The was introduced into the Miami area early 1950s. This introduction resulted two human outbreaks, one 1952 and second 1958. Three urban SLE epidemics were reported Tampa Bay 1959, 1961, 1962. virtually disappeared from state until 1977 when widespread rural epidemic 20 Florida counties with 110 confirmed cases. An almost identical 1990 226 cases 28 counties. Following of West Nile 2001, reports SLEV transmission to sentinel chickens humans decreased dramatically. Except for 2014 focal outbreak Duval County, only sporadic between 1998 2022.

Isolation of Genotype V St. Louis Encephalitis Virus in Florida

We isolated and characterized St. Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV) from cloacal swabs of naturally exposed adult sentinel chickens in 2006. Phylogenetic analysis of SLEV strains isolated in Florida indicated that Brazilian SLEV circulated in 1972 and 2006; lineages were VA and VB.

Seasonal Forecast of St. Louis Encephalitis Virus Transmission, Florida

Disease transmission forecasts can help minimize human and domestic animal health risks by indicating where disease control and prevention efforts should be focused. For disease systems in which weather-related variables affect pathogen proliferation, dispersal, or transmission, the potential for disease forecasting exists. We present a seasonal forecast of St. Louis encephalitis virus transmis...

Genetic variation of St. Louis encephalitis virus

St. Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV) has been regularly isolated throughout the Americas since 1933. Previous phylogenetic studies involving 62 isolates have defined seven major lineages (I-VII), further divided into 14 clades. In this study, 28 strains isolated in Texas in 1991 and 2001-2003, and three older, previously unsequenced strains from Jamaica and California were sequenced over the env...

St. Louis Encephalitis

Transmission of the virus of St. Louis encephalitis to normal chickens by the bite of infected mites (Dermanyssus gallinae) has been demonstrated. Both experimentally infected and naturally infected mites were shown to be capable of transferring the virus of St. Louis encephalitis to chickens by bite. Virus is present in the blood of such chickens in small amounts, so that demonstration of vire...
