Ripplocations in layered materials: Sublinear scaling and basal climb

چکیده
The ripplocation is a crystallographic defect which unique to layered materials, combining nanoscale delamination with the slip of basal dislocation. Here, we have studied dislocations and ripplocations, in single multiple van der Waals layers, using analytical computational techniques. Expressions for energetic structural scaling factors surface ripplocations are derived, close correspondence physics classical carpet ruck. Our simulations demonstrate that lowest-energy structure dislocation pileups materials ripplocation, while large bulk graphite multilayer delamination, curvature, voids. This can provide concise explanation volumetric expansion seen irradiated graphite.

Evidence for Bulk Ripplocations in Layered Solids
Plastically anisotropic/layered solids are ubiquitous in nature and understanding how they deform is crucial in geology, nuclear engineering, microelectronics, among other fields. Recently, a new defect termed a ripplocation-best described as an atomic scale ripple-was proposed to explain deformation in two-dimensional solids. Herein, we leverage atomistic simulations of graphite to extend the ...

15 صفحه اولAnisotropic scaling in layered aperiodic Ising systems
The influence of a layered aperiodic modulation of the couplings on the critical behaviour of the two–dimensional Ising model is studied in the case of marginal perturbations. The aperiodicity is found to induce anisotropic scaling. The anisotropy exponent z, given by the sum of the surface magnetization scaling dimensions, depends continuously on the modulation amplitude. Thus these systems ar...
متن کاملSublinear Scaling for Multi-Client Private Information Retrieval
Private information retrieval (PIR) allows clients to retrieve records from online database servers without revealing to the servers any information about what records are being retrieved. To achieve this, the servers must typically do a computation involving the entire database for each query. Previous work by Ishai et al. has suggested using batch codes to allow a single client (or collaborat...
