On the square root of quadratic matrices
Here we present a new approach to calculating the square root of a quadratic matrix. Actually, the purpose of this article is to show how the Cayley-Hamilton theorem may be used to determine an explicit formula for all the square roots of $2times 2$ matrices.
متن کاملPolynomials Associated with Reciprocation
Polynomials are defined recursively in various ways associated with reciprocation; e.g., Sn+1(x)/Tn+1(x) = Sn(x)/Tn(x) ± Tn(x)/Sn(x). Under certain conditions, the zeros of Sn interlace those of Tn. Identities for Sn, Tn, and related polynomials are derived, as well as recurrence relations and infinite sums involving roots of polynomials.
متن کاملOn the Central Coefficients of Riordan Matrices
We use the Lagrange-Bürmann inversion theorem to characterize the generating function of the central coefficients of the elements of the Riordan group of matrices. We apply this result to calculate the generating function of the central elements of a number of explicit Riordan arrays, defined by rational expressions, and in two cases we use the generating functions thus found to calculate the H...
متن کاملPell Walks and Riordan Matrices
The purpose of this paper is twofold. As the first goal, we show that three different classes of random walks are counted by the Pell numbers. The calculations are done using a convenient technique that involves the Riordan group. This leads to the second goal, which is to demonstrate this convenient technique. We also construct bijections among Pell, certain Motzkin, and certain Schröder walks...
متن کاملOn the spectra of some matrices derived from two quadratic matrices
begin{abstract} The relations between the spectrum of the matrix $Q+R$ and the spectra of the matrices $(gamma + delta)Q+(alpha + beta)R-QR-RQ$, $QR-RQ$, $alpha beta R-QRQ$, $alpha RQR-(QR)^{2}$, and $beta R-QR$ have been given on condition that the matrix $Q+R$ is diagonalizable, where $Q$, $R$ are ${alpha, beta}$-quadratic matrix and ${gamma, delta}$-quadratic matrix, respectively, of ord...
