Rice yield grown in different fertilizer combination and planting methods: Case study in Buru Island, Indonesia

Abstract Rice productivity in the tropics largely depends on fertilizers as soils are commonly low nitrogen and phosphorus. Some farmers this region cultivate rice using hand-broadcast method, which has resulted a yield. Therefore, on-farm experiment was conducted to compare performance yield of broadcasted transplanted production systems under different fertilizer combinations. The experimental set up split plot design with six combination treatments seven replications. main plots were planting methods comprised transplanting broadcasting. subplots NPK fertilizer, urea, biofertilizer (BF) without compost, while control treatment urea. BF contained fixer bacteria phosphate solubilizer microbes. results showed that increased shoot height, root length, dry weight (RDW), root-to-shoot ratio (R/S), tiller number, 1,000-grain weight, but did not affect clump number. In addition, method affected parameters except for R/S weight. grown urea 17.5% higher than broadcasting method. Incorporation chemical combined compost comparable yield; only 2.18% more broadcasted. This diverse application is needed minimize gap between rice.
