چکیده
AIM The spinal cord is drained by three interconnected venous systems. Among them the extrinsic system of dorsal thoracolumbar region with its radicular communications liable to get injured due anatomical position. With increasing case reports post puncture hematomas, revisiting intrathecal has become a necessity. MATERIAL AND METHODS In tertiary teaching institution, 25 adult cadavers were dissected standard dissection procedure and was removed meninges. aspect further out layers meninges carefully expose in region. specimens that showed engorged veins studied for their extent, pattern, presence veins, level route exit. RESULTS Five variant pattern main vein seen be engorged, tortuous more than 2mm veins. Out 8 observed, 6 exited through nerve root foramen 2 separate foramen. CONCLUSION anatomy engorgement might during lumbar procedure. exit same also makes susceptible procedural hematomas.

A 5 year old boy developed an implantation dermoid tumour after a lumbar puncture in infancy. A survey of senior paediatricians has shown it to be common practice to use an unstiletted needle for lumbar puncture in small children. A stiletted needle is recommended for all such procedures.

Spinal subarachnoid hematoma (SSH) following diagnostic lumbar puncture is very rare. Generally, SSH is more likely to occur when the patient has coagulopathy or is undergoing anticoagulant therapy. Unlike the usual complications, such as headache, dizziness, and back pain at the needle puncture site, SSH may result in permanent neurologic deficits if not properly treated within a short period ...

متن کاملMinimally invasive delivery of stem cells for spinal cord injury: advantages of the lumbar puncture technique.
OBJECT Stem cell therapy has been shown to have considerable therapeutic potential for spinal cord injuries (SCIs); however, most experiments in animals have been performed by injecting cells directly into the injured parenchyma. This invasive technique compromises the injured spinal cord, although it delivers cells into the hostile environment of the acutely injured cord. In this study, the au...
