Revisit the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age in Proxy Records from Zemu Glacier Sediments, Eastern Himalaya: Vegetation and Climate Reconstruction

چکیده

The Late Holocene fossil pollen records from the Zemu glacier, located in Yabuk, North Sikkim, eastern Himalayas, effectively generated quantitative climate reconstructions based on transfer function model. model was developed by establishing a modern pollen–climate calibration set temperate alpine belt of Sikkim. A redundancy analysis carried out to detect pattern variation climatic variables datasets. mean annual precipitation (MAP) and temperature warming month (MTWA) had strongest influence composition samples among considered analysis. Proxy data form were analyzed for reconstructing past upon relationships between vegetation assemblages patterns. Transfer functions MAP MTWA with partial least squares (PLS) approach, performance assessed using leave-one-out cross-validation. validated used reconstruct last 2992 cal years BP (1042 BC) variability observed global events. It further compared available regional hemispheric proxy-based reconstructions. captured comparable Medieval Warm Period (MWP) Little Ice Age (LIA)-like events glacier region. mineral magnetism subsurface sediment profile.

Medieval Warm Period, Little Ice Age and 20th century temperature variability from Chesapeake Bay

We present paleoclimate evidence for rapid ( < 100 years) shifts of f 2–4 jC in Chesapeake Bay (CB) temperature f2100, 1600, 950, 650, 400 and 150 years before present (years BP) reconstructed from magnesium/calcium (Mg/Ca) paleothermometry. These include large temperature excursions during the Little Ice Age (f1400–1900 AD) and the Medieval Warm Period (f800–1300 AD) possibly related to change...

The Medieval Climate Anomaly and the Little Ice Age in the eastern Ecuadorian Andes

To better characterize the climate variability of the last millennium in the high Andes, we analyzed the pollen content of a 1150-yr-old sediment core collected in a bog located at 3800 m a.s.l. in the páramo in the eastern Cordillera in Ecuador. An upslope convective index based on the ratio between cloud transported pollen from the Andean forest to the bog (T) and Poaceae pollen frequencies, ...

Little Ice Age climate reconstruction from ensemble reanalysis of Alpine glacier fluctuations

Mountain glaciers sample a combination of climate fields – temperature, precipitation and radiation – by accumulation and melting of ice. Flow dynamics acts as a transfer function that maps volume changes to a length response of the glacier terminus. Long histories of terminus positions have been assembled for several glaciers in the Alps. Here I analyze terminus position histories from an ense...

Seasonal modulation of the Asian summer monsoon between the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age: a multi model study

Instrumental and proxy records indicate remarkable global climate variability over the last millennium, influenced by solar irradiance, Earth’s orbital parameters, volcanic eruptions and human activities. Numerical model simulations and proxy data suggest an enhanced Asian summer monsoon during the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) compared to the Little Ice Age (LIA). Using multiple climate model sim...

Global signatures and dynamical origins of the Little Ice Age and Medieval Climate Anomaly.

Global temperatures are known to have varied over the past 1500 years, but the spatial patterns have remained poorly defined. We used a global climate proxy network to reconstruct surface temperature patterns over this interval. The Medieval period is found to display warmth that matches or exceeds that of the past decade in some regions, but which falls well below recent levels globally. This ...
