چکیده

Municipal solid waste (MSW) is increasingly considered a source of energy and materials rather than an environmental socioeconomic problem. Incineration using the grate-firing technique one best available technologies for thermal treatment non-recyclable MSW with recovery. The transition to circular economy brings new challenge Waste Energy (WtE) industry. Due advanced management schemes, calorific value input likely decrease. Nevertheless, WtE plant designers operators have aimed increase material recovery efficiency their installations, while maintaining or even decreasing operation maintenance costs. For these reasons, there need better understanding chemical physical phenomena involved in incineration process. Accurate numerical modelling packed bed combustion can substantially contribute this objective. literature on similar fields such as coal biomass has delineated many crucial aspects fuel applications. However, know-how obtained cannot be transferred because much more inhomogeneous composition thermophysical properties. This paper first presents overview MSW's Then, heterogeneous nature its complex degradation behaviour are used basis discuss suitability methodologies. Finally, current challenges beds identified, relevance improving performance industrial plants.

Behavior of Packed Bed Thermal Storage

A packed bed thermal storage has several desirable characteristics to be used for energy storage. The behavior of packed bed is predicted by set of differential equations. A numerical solution is developed for packed bed storage tank accounting to the secondary phenomena of thermal losses and conduction effect. The effect of heat loss to surrounding (K1), conduction effect (K2) and air capacita...

RefCom: A Test-Bed Converting Municipal Solid Waste to Methane

Mr. Don Walter should be commended for his technical paper dealing with the real-world problems of preparing anaerobic digester feeds from a difficult raw material, municipal solid waste (MSW). The information presented in the paper is not readily available in the published litera ture, and will be valuable to engineers interested in MSW processing and digestion. The author discusses some of t...

Adiabatic Reverse Combustion in a Packed Bed

Downward propagation of a combustion front in a packed bed of wood particles, with air supply from below, is examined theoretically and experimentally. Using a single-step reaction, with a kinetic model of char oxidation as the dominant mechanism, and assuming local thermal equilibrium, but allowing a local chemical nonequilibrium between the solid and gas phases, the front speed u F, the adiab...

Hydrothermal Treatment of Municipal Solid Waste to Produce Solid Fuel

This paper describes the application of innovative hydrothermal technology on local municipal solid waste (MSW) to produce low chlorine content solid co-firing fuel with coal. Raw MSW was treated at temperatures ranging from 210 to 235°C with 30 to 90 minutes holding period. The process yielded slump products which were then naturally dried to 5% moisture content, resulted in dry products with ...
