Reverse Mentoring in STEM: Changing Perspectives to Foster Dialogue

Abstract Reverse mentoring provides organizations with key insights into the personal and professional needs preferences of staff members from a variety backgrounds experiences. Although pairing senior-level mentee junior-level mentor has been successfully utilized by corporate world for over decade to help employees gain appreciation colleagues’ lived experiences, traditional remains norm in academic research settings. Given well-documented barriers participation attrition individuals historically excluded groups professoriate, FASEB established reverse program scientists scientific societies assess ability this strategy foster greater understanding differences between at different career stages Through mentoring, pairs learn develop inclusive spaces culture decision-making their spheres influence. This engagement will enable participants better existing procedures policies that create institutional groups. Our presentation summarize findings our pilot cohort four pairs, including applicant statistics, curriculum, preliminary participant feedback.
