Revealing the diversity of hydropeaking flow regimes

چکیده

Hydropeaking, a hydroelectricity generation strategy involving rapid changes to flow releases from dams in response fluctuations hourly-adjusted electricity markets, has been widely applied due its economic efficiency. However, these operational practices produce sub-daily that pose substantial hazards riverine ecosystems and human activities. To ascertain the downstream impacts of hydropeaking, features hydropeaking have analyzed with respect ecologically relevant hydrologic variables. since studies aiming characterize regime often require manual feature extraction, they are limited small temporal spatial scales. Additionally, ecologists commonly treated as broadly similar flow-alteration pattern regardless complexities market differences natural settings where it is applied. Therefore, this study sought determine whether significantly different patterns exist on regional scale, revealed by variation over long scale (>five years). fulfill goal, new algorithm, Hydropeaking Event Detection Algorithm (HEDA), was developed R automate characterization regimes. Clustering analyses were conducted explore similarities regimes among 33 sites numerous regions California. Four distinct classes identified distinguished duration frequency hydropeaking. Meanwhile, rate change, amplitude timing hdyropeaking played less important roles classification.

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

phylogeography and genetic diversity of the lesser mouse- eared bat (myotis blythii) in iran

in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...

Revealing the diversity of extracellular vesicles using high-dimensional flow cytometry analyses

Extracellular vesicles (EV) are small membrane vesicles produced by cells upon activation and apoptosis. EVs are heterogeneous according to their origin, mode of release, membrane composition, organelle and biochemical content, and other factors. Whereas it is apparent that EVs are implicated in intercellular communication, they can also be used as biomarkers. Continuous improvements in pre-ana...

Resilience of river flow regimes.

Landscape and climate alterations foreshadow global-scale shifts of river flow regimes. However, a theory that identifies the range of foreseen impacts on streamflows resulting from inhomogeneous forcings and sensitivity gradients across diverse regimes is lacking. Here, we derive a measurable index embedding climate and landscape attributes (the ratio of the mean interarrival of streamflow-pro...

Adaptation to natural flow regimes.

Floods and droughts are important features of most running water ecosystems, but the alteration of natural flow regimes by recent human activities, such as dam building, raises questions related to both evolution and conservation. Among organisms inhabiting running waters, what adaptations exist for surviving floods and droughts? How will the alteration of the frequency, timing and duration of ...
