Retrieval of Stratospheric Ozone Profiles from Limb Scattering Measurements of the Backward Limb Spectrometer on Chinese Space Laboratory Tiangong-2: Preliminary Results

The Backward Limb Spectrometer (BLS) onboard the Tiangong-2 (TG-2) space laboratory, first spaceborne limb sounding instrument of China, was successfully launched on 15 September 2016, and its measurements scattered photons sunlight along line-of-sight (LOS) in 290–1000 nm range could be used to derive vertical distribution stratospheric ozone with high resolution. Ozone profiles a resolution one km 10–40 30–50 were retrieved by triplet pair methods, respectively, BLS compared data over four stations. Meanwhile, Mapping Profiler Suite (OMPS/LP) version 2.5 (v2.5) profile product also introduced for comparison. retrieval results showed good agreement OMPS/LP v2.5 product, differences basically within 25% above 20 km, while relatively larger occasionally occurred below km. case studies sites worldwide demonstrate that is capable measuring
