Rethinking Innocence Projects in England and Wales: Lessons for the Future

This article draws on original empirical research to explore the rise and fall of innocence projects across England Wales. Innocence are university-based which seek educate students, assist wrongly convicted contribute reform within criminal justice. Thirty-six were established between 2004 2014 under Network UK, but following network's closure, appear be gradually disappearing. Drawing evidence from key actors, this argues that decline resulted both emerging tensions project movement itself through external constraints operating a restrictive appeal system. It will conclude by rethinking how surviving might play valuable role in addressing miscarriages justice current climate.
