Restriction endonuclease analysis discriminates Bordetella bronchiseptica isolates.
One hundred ninety-five Bordetella bronchiseptica isolates from 12 different host species worldwide were characterized by restriction enzyme analysis (REA). These isolates had previously been categorized into 19 PvuII ribotypes. Twenty restriction endonucleases were evaluated for use in REA. Digestion of chromosomal DNA with HinfI, followed by submarine electrophoresis in agarose gels and stain...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility of Bordetella avium and Bordetella bronchiseptica isolates.
Two veterinary pathogens, Bordetella bronchiseptica and Bordetella avium, were tested for their antimicrobial susceptibilities. Of the 20 antimicrobial agents tested, both species were consistently resistant to penicillin and cefuroxime but susceptible to mezlocillin, piperacillin, gentamicin, amikacin, and cefoperazone.
متن کاملUse of ribotyping to distinguish Bordetella bronchiseptica isolates.
A total of 113 Bordetella bronchiseptica strains, isolated from 11 different host species worldwide, were characterized by ribotyping with restriction enzyme PvuII. Sixteen distinct ribotypes were identified, and each ribotype contained five to seven restriction fragments ranging in size from 1.8 to 5.6 kb. Approximately 88% of the swine isoaltes were identified as ribotype 3 strains. Isolates ...
متن کاملCharacterization of isolates of Bordetella bronchiseptica from horses
Bordetella bronchiseptica is a well-known Gram-negative bacterial pathogen causing a plethora of diseases in different animals. Although its infection has been reported from pigs and dogs in India, no report of B. bronchiseptica from horses is described. We report for the first time, isolation, identification and characterization of strains of B. bronchiseptica from respiratory infection in hor...
متن کاملRestriction endonuclease analysis of nosocomial isolates of Clostridium difficile.
A total of 110 clinical isolates of Clostridium difficile were analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis by using both bacterial restriction endonuclease analysis (REA) and plasmid profiles. A total of 72 isolates were divided into 12 groups according to their REA patterns. Some 38 isolates exhibited unique patterns. Pattern A occurred in 20% of isolates. Isolates with patterns B, E, and G were c...
