Resting-state functional connectivity in lifelong musicians

چکیده

Abstract Background It has been postulated that musicianship can lead to enhanced brain and cognitive reserve, but the neural mechanisms of this effect have poorly understood. Lifelong professional in conjunction with novel imaging techniques offers a unique opportunity examine network differences between musicians matched controls. Objective In study we aim investigate how resting-state functional networks (FNs) manifest lifelong active musicians. We will evaluate FNs healthy controls using magnetic resonance imaging. Methods derive data-driven independent component analysis approach analyze connectivity (FNC) default mode (DMN), sensory-motor (SMN), visual (VSN), auditory (AUN) networks. whether linear regressions FNC age are different control group. Results The trajectory average across all six pairs shows significant Musicians show an increase while decrease (P = 0.013). When evaluated each pair FN, note values increased DMN–AUN, DMN–VSN, SMN–VSN decreased DMN–SMN, AUN–SMN, SMN–VSN. Conclusion This result provides early evidence may contribute reserve. preliminary need be replicated larger number participants.

Resting-state Functional Connectivity During Controlled Respiratory Cycles Using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the effect of controlled mouth breathing during the resting state using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Methods: Eleven subjects participated in this experiment in which the controlled “Nose” and “Mouth” breathings of 6 s respiratory cycle were performed with a visual cue at 3T MRI. Voxel-wise seed-to-voxel maps and whole-brain region of i...

Resting-state functional connectivity and pitch identification ability in non-musicians

Previous studies have used task-related fMRI to investigate the neural basis of pitch identification (PI), but no study has examined the associations between resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) and PI ability. Using a large sample of Chinese non-musicians (N = 320, with 56 having prior musical training), the current study examined the associations among musical training, PI ability, an...

Resting-state functional connectivity in neuropsychiatric disorders.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW This review considers recent advances in the application of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging to the study of neuropsychiatric disorders. RECENT FINDINGS Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging is a relatively novel technique that has several potential advantages over task-activation functional magnetic resonance imaging in terms of its clinical...

Resting-State Functional Connectivity in Psychiatric Disorders.

The idea that serious mental illnesses, such as autism and schizophrenia, result fromabnormalconnectivityamong largescale brain networks is gaining widespread acceptance. Efforts to test hypotheses of dysconnectivity have historically been hindered by tools with insufficient spatial resolution to investigatehumanbrain connectivity in vivo and an incomplete understanding of the large-scaleorgani...

Resting-State Functional Connectivity in Rat Brain

Introduction Synchronized low-frequency fluctuations in resting-state fMRI (1) have been used to investigate functional connectivity between brain areas. Recent studies demonstrate that this technique can be utilized in the study of Alzheimer’s disease (2), antidepressant effects (3), and “default mode” of brain networks (4). So far, most resting-state fMRI studies have been performed on humans...
