چکیده
Drought is the main constraint to maize production in Mediterranean area. This first report of breeding temperate populations from Algerian desert. The objective this study was evaluate response selection for reduced anthesis-silking interval (ASI) under drought and control conditions. Three cycles ASI were carried out four conditions, program evaluated both Selection more efficient than particularly LOM TAO populations. low days per cycle BTM IGS, respectively, anthesis BTM, when selected Significant yield increase observed optimal genetic gain population drought. Therefore, improved could be a novel source reducing earlier flowering time as mechanism avoiding Furthermore, we propose these sources develop tolerant inbred lines find quantitative trait loci tolerance.

Divergent selection for four-week body weight in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica): response to selection and realized heritability
The Japanese quail has been utilized as a research species in establishing the genetic relationships that may also be present in other species. Divergent phenotypic selection for 4-wk BW was conducted for three generations in high (HW) and low (LW) lines. Within each line, 50 females and 25 males were selected among 600 birds, based on 4-wk BW. Mean BW at 4 wk of age in the base generation was ...
متن کاملSelection for Drought Tolerance in Two Tropical Maize Populations
Drought is a major factor limiting maize (Zea mays L.) yield in much of the world. The need to breed maize cultivars with improved drought tolerance is apparent. This study compared two maize populations, ZM601 and ZM607 for drought tolerance during flowering, the most drought-vulnerable period for the maize plant. Cultivar ZM601 had been improved through recurrent selection for two cycles for ...
متن کاملAre source and sink strengths genetically linked in maize plants subjected to water deficit? A QTL study of the responses of leaf growth and of Anthesis-Silking Interval to water deficit.
Leaf growth and Anthesis-Silking Interval (ASI) are the main determinants of source and sink strengths of maize via their relations with light interception and yield, respectively. They depend on the abilities of leaves and silks to expand under fluctuating environmental conditions, so the possibility is raised that they may have a partly common genetic determinism. This possibility was tested ...
متن کاملAllelic Eff ect Variation at Key Photoperiod Response Quantitative Trait Loci in Maize
Tropical maize (Zea mays L.) represents a valuable genetic resource containing unique alleles not present in elite temperate maize. The strong delay in fl owering in response to long daylength photoperiods exhibited by most tropical maize hinders its incorporation into temperate maize breeding programs. We tested the hypothesis that diverse tropical inbreds carry alleles with similar effects at...
