Response of Warm Season Turf Grasses to Combined Cold and Salinity Stress under Foliar Applying Organic and Inorganic Amendments

چکیده

Turfgrasses are considered an important part of the landscape and ecological system golf courses, sports fields, parks, home lawns. Turfgrass species affected by many abiotic stresses (e.g., drought, salinity, cold, heat, waterlogging, heavy metals) biotic (mainly diseases pests). In current study, seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Sw.) Tifway bermudagrass (Cynodon transvaalensis Burtt Davy × C. Dactylon) were selected because they popular turfgrasses frequently used for outdoor lawns sport fields. The effect combined stress from both soil salinity cold on these warm season grasses was investigated. Some organic inorganic amendments (i.e., humic acid, ferrous sulphate, silicon) applied as foliar sprays five times during winter late October to March. This repeated over two years in field trials involving salt-affected soils. physiological chemical parameters plants, including plant height; fresh dry weight per plot; total chlorophyll content; nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, potassium content, measured. results showed that all studied improved growth this period compared control, with a greater improvement observed when using sulphate acid silicon. For paspalum, highest content April recorded after application at level 1000 ppm. research indicates grown soils, can be warm-season maintain turf quality periods year. Further is needed examine any negative long-term effects explain their mechanisms.

Warm-Season Grasses for Hay and Pasture

Switchgrass, Indiangrass, and big bluestem are warmseason grasses that are a suitable alternative for summer pasture in Iowa. Their advantage over cool-season grasses such as bluegrass, bromegrass, and orchardgrass is their ability to produce during midsummer. These warm-season perennial grasses start growing in late spring as air and soil temperatures increase. Leaf growth often occurs in earl...

Growth and Chemical Composition of Pistachio Seedling Rootstock in Response to Exogenous Polyamines under Salinity Stress

In order to evaluate responses of a pistachio seedling rootstock (Pistacia vera L. cv. Ghazvini) to NaCl induced salinity stress and potential protective role of exogenous spermine and spermidine on NaCl induced salinity stress, a greenhouse experiment was conducted during growing season of 2009. The NaCl treatments, involving 800, 1600, and 3200 mg NaCl per Kg of soil for 90 days, suppressed g...

Organic and inorganic nitrogen amendments to soil as nematode suppressants.

Inorganic fertilizers containing ammoniacal nitrogen or formulations releasing this form of N in the soil are most effective for suppressing nematode populations. Anhydrous ammonia has been shown to reduce soil populations of Tylenchorhynchus claytoni, Helicotylenchus dihystera, and Heterodera glycines. The rates required to obtain significant suppression of nematode populations are generally i...

Qualifying Native Warm-Season Grasses and Early Succession Habitat

Tall fescue and other non-native perennial cool-season grasses (such as orchardgrass, timothy, bromegrasses, and bluegrass) provide poor wildlife habitat. Native warm-season grasses (nwsg), especially big and little bluestem, indiangrass, and switchgrass, have been promoted to replace non-native cool-season grasses and enhance quality early succession habitat. Initially, problems associated wit...
