چکیده
Abstract The invasive vine black swallowwort [ Vincetoxicum nigrum (L.) Moench = Cynanchum louiseae Kartesz & Gandhi, Apocynaceae] is difficult to control, and herbicide studies are lacking. This long-lived perennial species primarily found in high-light environments natural areas cropping systems northeastern North America. We conducted a 3-yr efficacy study, with or without mowing, an old-field site infested V. Dutchess County, NY, USA. Experimental plots were either treated early July mowed subsequently late August for 2 yr the potassium salt of glyphosate (2.02 kg ae ha −1 ), isopropylamine (1.35 butoxyethyl ester triclopyr (1.79 ). Both formulations effective reducing aboveground biomass, although they somewhat less cover stem densities plants >10-cm tall after compared untreated plots. Mowing did not always enhance foliar applications. Triclopyr, was generally against our study. only significant effect increase grasses While annual applications can be useful management infestations, higher rates more frequent need investigated determine its usefulness control.

Pale Swallowwort (Vincetoxicum rossicum) Response to Cutting and Herbicides
Effective control techniques for pale swallowwort (PSW), an invasive herbaceous vine of old fields and forest understories, are limited. We conducted a 3-yr cutting and herbicide study on an adjacent old-field and forest understory site near Ithaca, NY, for control of PSW. Plants in experimental plots were cut in early July and cut again or sprayed in late August for two seasons with the isopro...
متن کاملResponse of Poaceous Weeds in Wheat to Post-Emergence Herbicides
Poaceous weeds are prolific and competitive in winter crops, but they are more insidious in wheat due to their similar morphology and growing requirements. Herbicides are effective and efficient tools of weed management, however, they are vulnerable to resistance, and herbicides with different modes of action might check the dominance of a particular weed flora. The current study was undertaken...
متن کاملTolerance of Swallowworts (Vincetoxicum spp.) to Multiple Years of Artificial Defoliation and Clipping
The European vines pale swallowwort and black swallowwort are invading various habitats in northeastern North America. It is unclear how these plants might respond to potential biological control agents, as they experience little herbivore damage in North America, or longer durations of mowing given the reported lack of efficacy of mechanical control. We evaluated the effect of six seasons of a...

Registered dose of herbicides may be higher than rate required for controlling weed species depending on growth stages. In order to study the effect of individual post-emergence application of 2,4-D plus MCPA and three sulfonylurea herbicides at four- to six-true leaf stage of weeds, experiments were conducted in 2011 at the greenhouse of Agricultural Faculty of Ferdowsi University of Mashh...
