Resource nationalism among Russian academics: A centre‐periphery pattern?

Under Putin's tenure, the geopolitical representation of Russia as an ‘energy superpower’ has become a powerful mainstay for restoration global status and revanchist foreign policy. This article seeks to assess extent which such nationalist narrative is prevalent among Russian academics in oil gas sector. Using survey administered research teaching staff selected industrial universities 2021, we found partial confirmation relevance centre-periphery relations that attitudes are aligned with state-centric approach. However, this perspective does not necessarily entail opposition industry privatisation or partnerships. These findings highlight inadequacy simplistic privatisation/nationalisation dichotomy capturing hybrid nature resource governance petro-states. Additionally, our study suggests nationalism plays role shaping experts' support government's energy contribute literature on suggest potential avenues future exploring higher education institutions governance.
