Residents’ Perception of Housing Quality Index for Dwellings’ Physical Characteristics in the Core Area of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria

This study examines residents’ perception of housing quality index for dwellings’ physical characteristics in the core area Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, South-west Nigeria. A survey 602 households randomly selected from was done. The results revealed that more than half respondents indicated present condition dwellings components like (roofs, walls, windows, floors, foundations and fascia boards) a very bad state. Subsequently, (H.Q.I) entire sample evaluated indexes were found to be below average (fair) using five-point Likert scale, starting (rated as 1), fair 3) good 5) calculate total weighted values all rated attributes means area. Surveyed have shown significant deterioration area, due age buildings lack maintenance. concluded there is an urgent need replace components, build new structures, provides basic amenities electricity, pipe-borne water, roads/drainages refurbish existing ones ensure residents do not these amenities.
