Tooth flank twist is a common phenomenon in the helical crowning modification of cylindrical gear, which reduces performance gear. At present, measurement tooth still stage replacing surface with line. The development 3-D technology makes acquisition gear information more comprehensive and complete. By processing point cloud data, deviation on can be found, particularly important for improving quality flank. In this paper, characterization method based orthogonal polynomials was proposed, effectively separate deviations existing correctness verified by experiments.
