Research on cutting performance in high-speed milling of TC11 titanium alloy using self-propelled rotary milling cutters

Titanium alloys are widely used in many areas, such as aerospace, biomedical, and automotive industries, due to their excellent chemical physical properties. However, its difficult-to-machine characteristic causes various problems the machining process, serious tool wear elastic deformation of workpieces. To achieve high efficiency quality titanium alloy materials, this paper conducted an experimental research on high-speed milling TC11 with self-propelled rotary cutters. In paper, mechanism cutters was explored; influence velocity analyzed cutting variation laws change length were obtained forces, chip morphology, machined surface quality. The calculation method proposed, based research. results showed that early middle stages milling, insert coating peeled off evenly under joint action abrasive adhesive mechanisms. As increased, dense notches occurred edge cutter, converted gradually into fatigue wear, furthermore, started peeling occurrence thermal cracks insert. further extended, forces tended intensify, worsened, obvious at bottom chips. increase intensified friction between chips cutters, decreased ratio velocity. This caused drop performance growth rate.
