Representing nonhuman animals as equals: An ecolinguistic analysis of vegan campaigns

Abstract Ecolinguistics studies the interactions between language and ecology. It investigates whether stories created by are destructive or beneficial to all constituents of environment. In search positive for our environment, this article focuses on vegan campaigns which generally bring awareness about veganism that, in turn, advocates protection nonhuman animals abstention from their exploitation. Nonhuman part ecosystem way they portrayed may determine relationship human animals. As refer as sentient living beings, it is important analyze image these articulate purposes create species. This explores regarding 27 posters campaign “Go Vegan World” examines how shaped aligned with values. The study approached an ecolinguistic perspective a focus multimodality where was analyzed through van Leeuwen’s Social Actor Action theory, Kress Grammar Visual Design. Further, analysis involves ecosophy defined personal ecological philosophy relationships animals, plants, physical findings suggest that shape three stories: salience individuals own feelings lives; conviction matter much humans; ideology biocentrism promoted. By comparing article’s ecosophy, showed largely representing beings who equal humans.
