Repeated degradation and progradation of a submarine slope over geological timescales

چکیده
ABSTRACT Submarine slopes prograde via accretion of sediment to clinoform foresets and degrade in response channel or canyon incision mass-wasting processes. The timescales over which progradation degradation occur, the large-scale stratigraphic record these processes, remain unclear due poor age constraints subsurface-based studies areally limited exposures exhumed systems. We here integrate 3D seismic reflection borehole data study geometry origin ancient slope canyons developed late Mesozoic strata Måløy Slope, offshore Norway. Slope commenced during Kimmeridgian, coincident with latter stages rifting. Later periods formation occurred Aptian Albian Cenomanian, early post-rift subsidence. are straight, up 700 m deep, 10 km wide on upper die out downdip onto lower slope. trend broadly perpendicular crosscut most rift-related normal faults, although syn-filling fault growth locally helped preserve thicker canyon-fill successions. headwalls oldest (late Kimmeridgian) located at a fault-controlled shelf edge, where younger overstep this fault, was inactive when they formed, extending across paleo-shelf. Uplift, denudation, and their causes and constraints over geological timescales
We define uplift and denudation, then review the basic principles underlying the mechanisms for producing uplift, and the methodologies used to quantify the geological timescale denudation history of uplifted regions. Uplift is represents work done against gravity, and does not necessarily lead immediately to rapid denudation. The causes of uplift can be categorised according to the principal d...
متن کاملUncertainties and Complexities of the Geological Model in Slope Stability: a Case Study of Sabzkuh Tunnel
Slope stability analysis is a geotechnical engineering problem characterized by many sources ofuncertainty. In slope stability computations, some of these sources are encountered, such as geologicaldetails missed in the exploration program, estimation of soil properties that are difficult to quantifyand many other relevant factors. Therefore, accurate reproduction of the spatial variability in ...

A repeated-measurements model with a functional structure in varlancecovariance is employed to analyze the degradation data collected from an accelerated life-test experiment. A transformation is utilized to permit the calculation of the generalized least-squares estimators and their covariance matrices by ordinary leastsquares regression. The mean and percentile of the distribution of the time...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Causes and Consequences of Submarine Slope Failure
The link between sedimentation/erosion, pore pressure evolution and slope stability is being explored using analytical and numerical modeling. This modeling is being done in collaboration with Ulisses Mello of IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center, who is an expert in hydrologic and structural simulations. Numerical modeling is also being used to simulate the effect of turbidity current erosion and...
متن کاملAccidental Limit State of Submarine Pipeline: Trawl Gears Pull-Over Loads and Effect of Free Span
Submarine pipelines failures lead to oil spills in water and may even lead to explosions with heavy financial and environmental damages. Trawl gear is one of the main factors in the failure of the submarine pipelines. In this paper, sensitivity analysis is performed on influence of height and span length alternations on the response of pipeline against the traction caused by trawling pull-over ...
