Repeatability of a bending stiffness test for snowboarding wrist protectors

چکیده

Abstract Snowboarding wrist protectors are typically designed to limit impact forces and prevent hyperextension. The standard for snowboarding (ISO 20320:2020) includes a test measuring their bending stiffness, when fitted surrogate. This serves as simple means of assessing the ability Wrist protector stiffness measurements have been shown be influenced by surrogate design, strapping condition, surface compliance. Currently, there is lack knowledge on repeatability measurements, previous studies conducted tests during one session. study investigated test, testing two (short long) surrogates (compliant stiff), under three conditions (loose, moderate, tight), across repeated sessions. Test session had significant effect ( p < 0.05) torque values, with large size $$\eta_{{\text{p}}}^{2}$$ η p 2 > 0.14), indicating limited between Despite this repeatability, values increased both angle strap tightness, reported before, consistent trends in results. outer compliance did not significantly affect protector’s sensitivity nor condition.

The efficacy of wrist protectors in preventing snowboarding injuries.

Injuries of the wrist are common among snowboarders and in-line skaters. Wrist protectors have been developed to protect against injury. Some studies support the use of such wrist protection, but others emphasize the fact that wrist protectors may transfer the injury to other locations in the forearm. We conducted a prospective, randomized, clinical study of 5,029 snowboarders, 2,515 in a brace...

Development of a method for measuring quasi-static stiffness of snowboard wrist protectors

In snowboarding, the wrist is the most common injury site, as snowboarders often put their arms out to cushion a fall. This can result in a compressive load through the carpals coupled with wrist hyperextension, leading to sprains or fractures. Wrist protectors are worn by snowboarders in an effort to reduce injury risk, by decreasing impact forces and limiting wrist hyperextension during falls...

Bending Stiffness of Aluminium Foams

The basic manufacturing processes of cellular materials have been briefly noted as well as the metal foam properties. The most widely used are the aluminium foams due to the following properties: very good insulation (thermal insulation and sound absorption), low density (mass), high specific rigidity in sandwich structures, very good impact damping, corrosion resistance, non-flammability, very...

Bending stiffness of a crystalline actin bundle.

The acrosomal process of the sperm of the horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) is a unique crystalline actin bundle, consisting of multiple actin filaments cross-linked by the actin-bundling protein, scruin. For successful fertilization, the acrosomal bundle must penetrate through a 30 microm thick jelly coat surrounding the egg and thus it must be sufficiently stiff. Here, we present two measur...

Stiffness Matrices for Axial and Bending Deformations of Non-Prismatic Beams with Linearly Varying Thickness

Siffness matrices for axial and bending deformations of a beam having a rectangular cross sectional area of constant width and linearly varying thickness are developed. A consistant load vector for a uniformly distributed lateral load is also calculated, using the principal of potential energy. The matrices are used to obtain numerical results for a variety of beams with non-uniform thickness t...
