RENEWABLE ENERGY CONSUMPTION, POVERTY ALLEVIATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH NEXUS IN SOUTH AFRICA: ARDL BOUNDS TEST APPROACH

This study examines the relationship between renewable energy consumption, poverty alleviation and economic growth in South Africa. The paper applies Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model to examine long run Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) determine direction of causality variables. Quarterly data is used for period 1990 – 2018. findings established a presence poverty, growth, financial development government expenditure. Specifically, consumption have negative significant impact on both short run. VECM suggest that Granger-causes long.
