Removal Mechanism of Abrasive Jet Polishing with a Novel Nozzle

Abstract In view of the high-precision and low-damage requirements for surface polishing hard brittle components, an abrasive jet process using a novel nozzle with specifically designed shroud was proposed. The removal mechanism investigated by simulating flow in interaction area workpiece. simulation results indicate that velocity increases greatly direction is aligned almost parallel to workpiece surface. With such design, normal force minimized reduce impact damage Further, stabilized insures smooth machining. machining experiments were performed on quartz glass component, typical material. shrouded show material mainly relied shearing scratching rather than mechanical shock impacts, which consistent findings.
