Removal and Reclamation of Trace Metals from Copper and Gold Mine Tailing Leachates Using an Alkali Suspension Method

Leachates from mine tailing ponds, which usually contain a variety of metallic ions, are highly toxic to human and ecological health. The common methods used remove those trace difficult due the extremely acidic conditions diverse kinds metals in leachates. Herein, we proposed an economical efficient soil-assisted alkali suspension approach reclaim metals. Under optimum conditions, more than 98% Cu2+, Zn2+, Cr3+, 93% Cd2+ were removed authentic copper gold Multiple characterizations indicated that quick removal metal ions leachates was mainly formation amorphous hydroxides easily adsorbed by soil particles. Additionally, small quantities organic matter complexes formed, contributed Furthermore, most leachate can be reclaimed simple acid treatment. Life cycle assessment analysis demonstrated environmental sustainability this method its smaller contribution global warming. This study provides low-cost for disposal recycling
