Remote Sensing Image-Based Analysis of the Urban Heat Island Effect in Bragança, Portugal

چکیده
Urban Heat Islands increase surface temperatures which impact the health and well-being of urban populations. Radiative forcing is impacted by changes to land associated with urbanization that are particularly significant immediately after sunset. This paper aimed analyze behavior UHI in different Local Climate Zones (LCZ) Bragança city (Portugal), using Air Temperature (Ta), satellite images (Landsat 8), on-site data. The methodology included a seasonal approach, integrating data scales (spatial, radiometric, spectral) qualitative quantitative analyses. Google Earth Engine (GEE) optimized processing time computation requirement generate Land Surface (LST) maps. integration corroborated complementation information/analysis detected correlation between Ta LST. However, identification was compromised due passage Landsat 8, it identified as Cool Island (UCI), complementary effect UHI, supporting results previous studies for use Remote Sensing (RS) thermal effects analysis.

Remote Sensing Image-based Analysis of the Relationship between Urban Heat Island and Vegetation Fraction
As the relationship between land surface temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) can not be able to effectively apply after NDVI reached saturation[1]. In this study, the vegetation fraction, which derived from Dimidiate Pixel Model, as the indicator of vegetation abundance has been introduced to analyze remote sensing of the change of urban heat islands (UHIs). Land...

Vegetation index (NDVI) was extracted from bi-temporal multispectral images based on the data obtained from Landsat ETM + on 14 th , September, 2000 , Landsat ETM + on 9 th , September, 2004 , Landsat ETM + on 15 th , May, 2008 and Landsat-8 on 21 st , May 2013 for Dangshan County in Anhui Province. Analysis and data extraction was carried out using the ENVI 5.0 software. Normalized values of t...
متن کاملRemote sensing image-based analysis of the relationship between urban heat island and land use/cover changes
Global warming has obtained more and more attention because the global mean surface temperature has increased since the late 19th century. As more than 50% of the human population lives in cities, urbanization has become an important contributor for global warming. Pearl River Delta (PRD) in Guangdong Province, southern China, is one of the regions experiencing rapid urbanization that has resul...
متن کاملRemote sensing of the urban heat island effect across biomes in the continental USA
Urban heating and the formation of the urban heat island (UHI) is one attribute of urban land transformation that is of interest across science disciplines because the UHI signal reflects a broad suite of important land surface changes impacting human health, ecosystem function, local weather and possibly climate. In this paper we use a combination of satellite and ecological map data to charac...
متن کاملA satellite remote sensing based assessment of urban heat island in Lanzhou city , northwest China
As a promising application, quantitative remote sensing of urban heat island (UHI) could facilitate our understanding of urban/suburban environment and its relationship with urbanization. This paper investigates the urban heat island effect of Lanzhou, China, a densely built up city in a valley, based on Landsat ETM+ image acquired on April 22, 2000, whose spatial resolution is sufficient for m...
