Reliability-based design assessment of offshore inflatable barrier structures made of fibre-reinforced composites

Analysis and design of inflatable structures made fibre reinforced composites have been the focus many researchers in recent times. As with most designs, sources uncertainty, variability bias performance designed exist should normally be assessed. This paper thus, seeks to identify quantify levels uncertainties that are a typical fender barrier structure against impact loadings conducts reliability-based evaluation toward understanding safety factors employed for its similar structures. Using previously validated 3D parametric fluid-structure interaction analysis results model, implicit limit state response surface-based functions were derived structural responses loads complex stresses strain modes failures. The First Order Reliability Method (FORM) was used evaluate influence materials load parameters hence margins failures considered. findings this study will provide benchmark practicing engineers carrying out optimal acceptable levels.
