چکیده

The citrus industry in Florida faces a destructive endemic disease, known as huanglongbing (HLB), associated with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus ( C Las), phloem-limited bacterium, and transmitted by the Asian psyllid (ACP). Rootstocks are regarded critical to keep production commercially viable help trees cope disease. Although most scions susceptible, some rootstocks HLB-tolerant may influence ACP infestation Las colonization therefore grafted tree tolerance. This study aimed elucidate relative of rootstock scion on insect vector under natural HLB-endemic conditions. Seven commercial cultivars different genetic backgrounds were ‘Valencia’ sweet orange Citrus sinensis ) or self-grafted (non-‘Valencia’) planted an open field where abundant. was determined weekly during periods leaf flushing, leaves roots analyzed every 3 months determine titers. Trees more attractive psyllids than non-‘Valencia’ scions. also higher number bacteria larger abundance foliar HLB symptoms. attraction less evident, titers similar regardless rootstock. Among scions, Carrizo had lowest US-942 highest Root varied among cultivars, standard sour harbored trifoliate hybrid such US-942. In trees, detected first 4 after planting, but root remained low throughout study. contrast, increased over time considerably from 7 until end study, 15 planting. Overall, results this demonstrate greater early stages infection. suggests that other cultivar-specific traits, ability tolerate stresses absorb water nutrients efficiently, along influences phenology, play role tolerance later progression.

Effect of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus infection on susceptibility of Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri, to selected insecticides.

BACKGROUND In the present investigation, the effect of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las), a bacterium considered to be responsible for causing huanglongbing (HLB) disease in citrus, on the physiology of its vector, the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, was determined. Specifically, the effects of Las infection on the susceptibility of ACP to selected insecticides were ...

Morphological abnormalities and cell death in the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) midgut associated with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus

Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas) is a phloem-limited, gram-negative, fastidious bacterium that is associated with the development of citrus greening disease, also known as Huanglongbing (HLB). CLas is transmitted by the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) Diaphorina citri, in a circulative manner. Two major barriers to transmission within the insect are the midgut and the salivary glands. We per...

Acquisition, Replication and Inoculation of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus following Various Acquisition Periods on Huanglongbing-Infected Citrus by Nymphs and Adults of the Asian Citrus Psyllid

The Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Liviidae), is the primary vector of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las) implicated as causative agent of citrus huanglongbing (citrus greening), currently the most serious citrus disease worldwide. Las is transmitted by D. citri in a persistent-circulative manner, but the question of replication of this bacterium in its psyllid vector h...

Colonization of citrus seed coats by 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus': implications for seed transmission of the bacterium.

Huanglongbing is an economically damaging disease of citrus associated with infection by 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus'. Transmission of the organism via infection of seeds has not been demonstrated but is a concern since some citrus varieties, particularly those used as rootstocks in commercial plantings are propagated from seed. We compared the incidence of detection of 'Ca. Liberibacter...

Effects of pymetrozine, an antifeedant of Hemiptera, on Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri, feeding behavior, survival and transmission of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus.

BACKGROUND Vector-borne plant disease management can be enhanced by deployment of antifeedants in addition to the use of broad-spectrum neurotoxic insecticides. The effects of pymetrozine on Asian citrus psyllid (ACP), Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, feeding behaviour, survival and transmission of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las), the presumed causal pathogen of huanglongbing, were investigat...
