Relationship between Anthocyanin Composition and Floral Color of Hibiscus syriacus

Hibiscus syriacus is a highly ornamental flowering shrub widely grown in East Asia. Its abundant flower colors mainly reflect the accumulation of anthocyanins. Classifying H. petals and identifying relationship between color anthocyanins can provide references for breeding. With eight cultivars as experimental materials, floral was described using Royal Horticultural Society Color Chart CIEL*a*b* coordinate. The anthocyanin qualitatively quantitatively analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS), relationships were stepwise regression analysis. We divided into five lines: red-purple, white, violet, purple, blue-purple, then two groups: purple red-purple. results showed that L* had significant negative correlation with a* C*. A total 52 components detected syriacus, including cyanidin, delphinidin, malvidin, petunidin, peonidin, pelargonidin derivatives. Cyanidin derivatives accounted highest proportion, lowest proportion Petals ‘Pink Giant’ contained largest number types content, while ‘Albus Single’ smallest. Petunidin-3-O-glucoside red-purple group all cultivars, whereas it b* group. Delphinidin-3-O-(6-O-Malonyl-β-D-glucoside) exhibited positive group, delphinidin-3-O-glucoside Therefore, our suggest changing content these three may have potential to alter color. This research provides scientific guidance foundation molecular breeding new colors.
