Relating Dike Geometry and Injection Rate in Analogue Flux-Driven Experiments

چکیده

Dikes feed most eruptions, so understanding their mechanism of propagation is fundamental for volcanic hazard assessment. The variation in geometry a propagating dike as function the injection rate remains poorly studied. Here we use experiments injecting water into gelatin to investigate thickness, width and length flux-driven connected its source time intruded volume. Results show that thickness vertically dikes proportional constant long latter constant. Neither buoyancy nor injected volume influence thickness. along-strike is, however, These results, consistent with inferred behavior several observed during emplacement, open new opportunities better understand how propagate also forecast emplacing may once geometric features are detected real-time through monitoring data.

Hierarchies Relating Topology and Geometry

Cognitive Vision has to represent, reason and learn about objects in its environment it has to manipulate and react to. There are deformable objects like humans which cannot be described easily in simple geometric terms. In many cases they are composed of several pieces forming a “structured subset” of R or Z. We introduce the potential topological representations for structured objects: plane ...

Topographic controls on dike injection in volcanic rift zones

Dike emplacement in volcanic rift zones is often associated with the injection of “bladelike” dikes, which propagate long distances parallel to the rift, but frequently remain trapped at depth and erupt only near the tip of the dike. Over geologic time, this style of dike injection implies that a greater percentage of extension is accommodated by magma accretion at depth than near the surface. ...

Virtual Dike: multiscale simulation of dike stability

We present a Virtual Dike simulation module developed as a part of a flood Early Warning System (EWS) for the UrbanFlood project. The UrbanFlood EWS is a distributed system that analyzes sensor data received in real-time from flood defenses (dikes, dams, etc.) and simulates dike stability, breaching and flood propagation. The aim of the Virtual Dike module is to develop an advanced multiscale m...

a study on rate making and required reserves determination in reinsurance market: a simulation

reinsurance is widely recognized as an important instrument in the capital management of an insurance company as well as its risk management tool. this thesis is intended to determine premium rates for different types of reinsurance policies. also, given the fact that the reinsurance coverage of every company depends upon its reserves, so different types of reserves and the method of their calc...

LA-UR-99-6286 AWE Experiments on Laser-Driven Mix in Planar and Convergent Geometry

AWE has had an active laser experimental program studying the physics of compressible turbulent mix for many years. Here we report on progress using the HELEN and OMEGA laser facilities. Recent work on HELEN has centred around obtaining well characterised data on shock-induced mixing at a foam-foam interface of varying roughness. A thin, opaque tracer layer is used as a radiographic diagnostic ...
